What you must do to complete the course
The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course.
units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.
You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions. If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do. At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
This course meets the requirements of the Certificate III in Aged Care
Work.
GROUP 1 - CORE UNITS OF COMPETENCY
----------------------------------
This group comprises the 9 compulsory units of competency.
An additional Workplace Learning Residential Aged Care module, 4480W, has
been included in the core to support on-the-job work based learning in
residential aged care.
GROUP 2 - ELECTIVE UNITS OF COMPETENCY
--------------------------------------
Four units of competency are to be completed.
Elective Option Group - NOMINATED ELECTIVES FOR PREFERRED PATHWAY - Provide
advice to teachers and students.
The Preferred Pathway, Group 2, Subgroup 1, contains two elective units
which have been endorsed by industry as important areas of competence to
achieve a vocational outcome in the aged care sector. These are:
· CHCCS304A Assist with self medication, and
· CHCCS405A Work with culturally diverse clients and co-workers.
However, these are not a compulsory pathway and any four electives may be
chosen.
Group 2, Subgroup 2
-------------------
This group contains one elective unit of competency.
Group 2, Subgroup 3
-------------------
This group contains the list of electives, additional to the electives in
Group 2, Subgroups 1 and 2 above.
Group 2, Subgroup 4
-------------------
This group contains the two recognition modules. Learners can select two
(2) units from other Certificate III level qualifications in the Community
Training Package (CHC02) or the Health Training Package (HLT02) to count as
elective units of competency for completion of the Certificate III in Aged
Work.
Group 2, Subgroup 5
-------------------
This group contains units which can be counted for advanced standing in
Certificate III - in Home and Community Care and Disability Work.
Learners who complete units of competency in this group will gain
recognition in the Certificate III in Home and Community Care (CHC30202)
TAFE Course 4482 and/or Certificate III in Disability Work (CHC30302) TAFE
only from this group can count for completion in the Certificate III in
Aged Care Work, because of the qualification packaging requirements set
out in Group 2, Subgroup 4 comments above.
Learners may wish to achieve additional units of competency to achieve
related Community Services qualifications.
Advice for learners to achieve the Certificate III in Home and Community
Care:

Group 1, Group 2, Subgroups 1 and 5, and Groups 3 and 4 (enrichment
groups) to satisfy the CHC30202 packaging rules:
· Ten core units of competency - CHCAC15A, CHCAC3C, CHCCOM2B, CHCCS405A,
CHCHC301B, CHCHC302B, CHCINF8B, CHCOHS302A, CHCCS401A, CHCDIS10B plus
CHCHC301A
· Five elective units of competency - CHCAC2C, CHCDIS1C, CHCCHILD1C,
CHCCS304A, CHCAC1C.
Advice for learners to achieve the Certificate III in Disability Work:

Learners must complete the following list of units of competency,
contained in Group 1, Group 2, Subgroups 1, 3 and 5, and Group 4
containing module 4476X to satisfy CHC30302 packaging rules:
· Eight core units of competency - CHCADMIN5C, CHCCOM2B, CHCDIS1C,
CHCDIS2C, CHCDIS5C, CHCOHS302A, CHCORG3B, CHCCS405A
plus module 4476X Workplace Learning in Disability 1
· Six elective units of competency - CHCAC15A, CHCAC2C, CHCAC6C, CHCAD1C,
CHCCS304A and one other elective, from the Certificate III in Aged Care
Work, which satisfies the qualification packaging rules.
GROUP 3 - UNITS TO ACHIEVE CERTIFICATE III IN HOME AND COMMUNITY CARE
---------------------------------------------------------------------
These units count towards the Certificate III in Home and Community Care.
They cannot be counted for completion in the Certificate III in Aged Care
Work as they are higher level units in the Community Services Training
Package (CHC02) and do not fulfil the qualification completion
requirements.
Learners who complete study in the Certificate III in Disability Work
and/or the Certificate III in Home and Community Care, through study of
units in Group 2, Subgroup 5 and Group 3, will need to apply for
recognition of these qualifications through the RPL process and pay the
required fee for the testamur where appropriate.
GROUP 4 - Workplace Learning modules in Certificate IIIs in Disability
Work and Home and Community Care

This group contains the workplace learning modules to support on the job
learning and assessment in the additional units listed in Group 2,
subgroup 5 and Group 3 for the Certificate III in Disability Work (module
4476X) and the Certificate III in Home and Community Care (module 4482F).
These modules do not count towards course completion.
GROUP 998 - TUTORIAL SUPPORT
----------------------------
Group 998 contains tutorial support to assist learners with integrated
vocational support.
GROUP 999 - ENRICHMENT SUPPORT GROUP
------------------------------------
Group 999 is an enrichment group which learners may undertake if
appropriate but the modules do not contribute to course completion.
LEARNER SUPPORT
----------------
Learners who may require additional support will be able to co-enrol in the
Learner Support course 9999. This course provides support for language,
literacy and numeracy needs. There is no additional enrolment fee for this
