Automotive Mechanical Technology (Motorcycle) Certificate III (NRT) - Armidale Campus

  • Objectives You will learn how to service and repair motorcycles and how to service, repair and diagnose faults in motorcycle engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering and electrical systems and components.
  • Entry requirements This course is for people working in the automotive industry who want a career as a motorcycle mechanic and have entered into a training agreement.

  • Course description The nationally endorsed Training Package (AUR05) specifies that 36 units of
    competence at levels 2, 3 or 4 are required to complete a qualification in
    AUR30405 Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology within the
    specific requirements as set out in the three areas below.
     
    NOTE: a maximum of 20 units of competence may be at level 2, and a maximum
    units of competence may be at level 4
     
    Area 1
    The following units of competence are compulsory:
    AURC270103A Apply safe working practices
    AURT366108A Carry out diagnostic procedures
    AURT271781A Implement and monitor environmental regulations in the
    automotive mechanical industry
     
    Area 2
    27 units of competence from the Technical Inventory,
     
    Area 3
    6 units of competence from the Retail, Service and Repair or any endorsed
    training package that meet the needs of the enterprise
     
    When people have achieved units as individual units or as part of
    Certificate II that are consistent with the requirement of this
    qualification, then credit should be given for those units.
     
    The following units of competence must NOT be used together when achieving
    qualification:
     
    MEM5.3AA Soft soldering basic
    And
    AURV223808A Carry out soft soldering techniques
     
    MEM5.4AB Perform routine oxy acetylene welding
    And
    AURV223608A Carry out oxy acetylene welding, thermal cutting and thermal
    heating procedures
     
    MEM5.7AB Manual heating thermal cutting
    And
    AURV223608A Carry out oxy acetylene welding, thermal cutting and thermal
    heating procedures
     
    MEM5.17AB Weld using gas metal arc welding process
    And
    AURV281308A Carry out gas metal arc (MIG) welding procedures
     
    To achieve a qualification in AUR30405 Certificate III in Automotive
    Mechanical Technology using the Motorcycle descriptor, the following must
    be included when selecting units of competence as specified in area TWO
    above.

    Note:
     
    1. The advice provided in this document should be used in conjunction with
    AUR05 Training Package and in particular the relevant qualification
    packaging rules.
     
    2. The course structure does not dictate the order in which units must be
    delivered. Institute/Colleges should be flexible in the order and method in
    which they deliver and group units in response to workplace needs where
    ever possible.
     
    3. In selecting technical and elective units of competency care must be
    taken to ensure the Packaging Rules for the qualification are addressed.
     
    4. Up to 6 elective units can be imported from other training packages.
    Imported units can be added to group 3 of the course structure on request
    from Institutes.(Please contact the Program Manager)
     
    To enable TAFE NSW to provide automatic course completion of the
    qualification, units have been added to the course using the following
    groupings:  

    GROUP 1
    3 Core competency units - safety, diagnostic and environmental units
    specified in the training package
     
    GROUP 2
    12 Motorcycle compulsory units - technical units specified by the training
    package
     
    GROUP 3
    18 Elective units - technical units and units from other endorsed training
    packages (see note 2) at levels 2, 3 and 4 as determined by the employer
    and apprentice.

    Group 3 contains four sub-groups;
    sub-group 1 - level 2 units,
    sub-group 2 - level 3 units,
    sub-group 3 - level 4 units.
    sub-group 4 - other AUR05 and other TP units
     
    Students are required to complete a minimum of 16 units from this group.
    Students may select a maximum of 14 level 2 units from sub-group 1, up to
    16 level 3 units from sub-group 2, no more than 2 level 4 units from
    sub-group 3 and no more than 6 units from subgroup 4.
     
    GROUP 4
    Additional mandatory modules have been added that are required by the
    Board of Studies Industry Curriculum Framework for  All school based
    apprentices and trainees, who MUST complete this group ALONG with the
    other mandatory units of competency specified in, Board of Studies Stage 6
    Framework Part A (2007) Table 3 p19. The units of competency count towards
    achievement of an AQF qualification. For further detail on the mandatory
    units that MUST be studied refer SECTION 6.1 - Delivery.
