  • Objectives Design photography covers all aspects of the visual medium while focusing on the ‘photographer as designer'. It is a field witnessing rapid transformation with the advent of new and continually evolving digital image capture and production technologies. These technologies and production processes are key areas of study and investigation within this major, with emphasis on design principles and practice. As part of the Bachelor of Arts (Design), this major will develop your competencies in technical, mechanical, cultural and aesthetic aspects of photography and the interdependence of these. The major provides for a variety of vocational and further needs, from competencies in the continually evolving digital modes of production and dissemination, to the practical application of communication theory and design principles.

    Introduction

    Design photography is a contemporary communication medium and practice that sees the photographer as a designer who is intrinsically linked and capable of managing every part of the design, conceptualisation and production process. Photography is a fieldwitnessing rapid transformation with the advent of new and continually evolving digital image capture and production technologies. These technologies and production processes are key areas of study and investigation within the program, with emphasis on design principles and practice.

    Career Opportunities

    Graduates find ready employment in professional design, advertising, public relations and marketing firms, television and radio stations, publishing industries, public sector organisations, manufacturing firms and local government.
