Bachelor of Dance

  • Course description The Bachelor of Dance offers intensive specialist dance training and encourages experimentation, exploration and artistic inquiry to produce versatile, collaborative dance artists.

The emphasis is on performance, choreographic practice and research so that graduates may become performers, choreographers, collaborators, teachers and artistic leaders in local, national and international dance communities. The course attracts highly motivated, disciplined and creative dancers who are interested in shaping the future of the profession.
    Structure

The Bachelor of Dance is a three-year intensive dance education and training program. The subjects are sequenced to enable you to progress and to develop technically and artistically. In first and second year students are introduced to new dance science information which can be integrated throughout the course and inform their emerging dance practice.

By third year there is a greater emphasis on developing artistic autonomy. Daily contemporary dance and ballet classes continue, followed by afternoon rehearsals. By working with emerging and leading Australian choreographers in preparation for the diverse challenges of current dance practice, you will maximise your potential to work professionally as a performer, teacher and/or choreographer.

In this multidisciplinary arts environment, students in the Bachelor of Dance will also undertake subjects through the Centre for Ideas. The common curriculum is a cross-disciplinary sequence of subjects examining the interaction between artistic practice and wider social, political and cultural contexts. The integration of intensive specialist dance training with critical studies aims to produce artists who are not only highly technically and artistically skilled but also culturally and technologically literate.
