Bachelor of Urban Design & Planning

  • Objectives This program provides a foundation in Urban Design and Planning. It is ideal for students intending to make their careers in a variety of built environment professions involved in creating sustainable cities. Four studio/project subjects develop knowledge and skills in Urban Design and Planning practice and communication (Introducing Urban Design, Urban Design and Site Analysis Studio, Supportive Environments for Active Transport and Community and Social Planning). The rationale for planning is taught in the context of both history and contemporary concerns (Economic and Social Foundations of Planning). The Development Assessment subject develops critical practical skills in managing development, and students are taught basic Research Methods relevant to Urban Design and Planning. In addition to these 7 discipline-specific subjects, students gain Development and Property knowledge through studying the specified relevant subjects from those areas
  • Practical experience Work Experience & Internships Students can apply to undertake an internship as part of their degree. This intensely practical professional development approach fosters graduates who are ready, willing and able to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact in the workplace.

    International Students: To fulfil your student visa requirements, you’ll need to enrol in 40cp per semester. Domestic Students: You have the option of undertaking either 30 or 40cp per semester.

    Bond’s teaching methodology involves a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, examinations, projects, presentations, assignments, computer labs and industry projects.

    Professional Outcomes

    Graduates from the program can expect to develop a sound knowledge and entry level skills in Urban Design and Planning. Those graduates wishing to achieve professional recognition from the Planning Institute of Australia would proceed to an additional two semesters of study to gain the Master of Urban Planning. The Bachelor of Urban Design and Planning also provides a sound basis for entry to a range of other Urban Design related degrees including Architecture and Landscape Architecture.

    Professional Recognition

    At Bond University we understand the importance of professional recognition. The School of Sustainable Development has commenced negotiations with the relevant professional institutions and it is anticipated by early 2008 all programs will have completed the accreditation process.     Combined Degrees

    Students can combine this degree with any other undergraduate degree at Bond (except Medicine) to suit their professional and personal interests. Bond's three-semester academic year allows students to complete two degrees in the same time it would take to complete just one degree at other universities (dependant upon degree combination).
