  • Objectives This course is for people who want to become builders and managers of small to medium building businesses. You will acquire the skills and knowledge required to coordinate the overall construction of low-rise buildings, which entails selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with clients.

    and Construction (Building) from the BCG03 General Construction Training
    Package:  

    To achieve this qualification the candidate must demonstrate competency in
    fifteen (15) units.
    *   All twelve (12) core units must be completed
    *   Three (3) elective units must be completed
     
    Elective units:
    *   one of the three units may be selected from another relevant endorsed
    Training Package or from other Certificate IV qualifications within this
    Training Package - these units must be selected to maintain both the
    integrity of the AQF level and the industry context of the qualification.
    *   one of the three units may be drawn from an AQF level either aligned
    to AQF III or Diploma. Additional units of competency may be required to
    meet builder registration requirements in various States and Territories.
     
    The TAFENSW course 17472 contains the following course structure:
     
    Group 1
    -------
    Group 1 contains the twelve (12) core competency units. All units in this
    group must be completed.
     
    Group 2
    -------
    Group 2 is elective compulsory and contains 3 subgroups. At least three (3)
    elective units are required to be completed from this group.
     
    Subgroup 1 contains the elective competency units as listed in the elective
    table in the training package. At least one (1) and no more than three (3)
    elective unit must be completed from this subgroup.
     
    Subgroup 2 contains units at AQF level 4 from BCG03 and/or other endorsed
    training packages. A maximum of one (1) unit may be selected from this
    subgroup.  

    Subgroup 3 contains units at AQF level 3 or 5 from BCG03 and/or other
    endorsed training packages. A maximum of one (1) unit may be selected from
     
    Additional elective units may be included in subgroups 2 & 3 from another
    endorsed Training Package or from other Certficate IV, Certificate III or
    Diploma qualifications within the BCG03 training package by request. The
    teaching section should contact the program manager if a request is
    received from an industry group to include a specific unit of competency
    that is not already in the course or if a learner is seeking recognition
    of a unit of competency achieved at an RTO other than TAFE that is not in
    the course structure.
     
    Group 3
    -------
    Group 3 is an enrichment group and contains foundation knowledge modules.
    These modules include the theory component and are used for recording
    purposes. They contain the underpinning knowledge to supplement the
    information contained in the BCG units of competency. These modules do not
    completion. There are two subgroups in Group 3:
     
    Subgroup 1 contains modules to support the core units. Subgroup 2 contains
    modules to support the elective units.

    Learners requiring support to meet their learning goals will need to
    co-enrol in the Learner Support Course (9999).
