  • Objectives Certificate II in Spoken and Written English is a post-beginner course which develops the skills for learners to satisfy their own simple everyday transactional and limited social needs. This course is suitable for those whose first language is not English. You will learn how to prepare a learning plan, participate in formal learning environments and access learning resources. You will learn how to understand and participate in basic spoken communication in familiar settings. You will learn how to read and write in familiar contexts. You will learn how to carry out basic calculations and measurements, calculate areas of common shapes, and interpret basic maps, graphs and charts. By the end of this course you will be able to: * Demonstrate and apply skills and knowledge to a varied range of clearly defined areas of english language when the choice of actions is clear and limited in complexity * apply solutions to a limited range of predictable problems * Receive, assess and record information from a variety of sources * demonstrate some responsibility for the quality of own learning * collaborate with others in groups Some of the topics you will study are: * Casual conversation * Listening and speaking english in a number of situations such as; speaking on the telephone. * Writing in english, such as; writing for information, writing for stories, opinion writing, informal and formal writing. * Numeracy skills dealing with basic calculations and measurements * Numeracy skills working with space and shapes
  • Entry requirements No prerequisities Other Entry Requirements Selection is based on assessment interviews. Students will be enrolled in the certificate level appropriate for them.

    Employment Opportunities  
    Students who do not go on to complete Certificate III in Spoken and Written English may be eligible for employment in a range of factory, cleaning and agricultural jobs.  Some culturally specific work may also be possible, depending on individual confidence.

    Further Study Options    
    Certificate III in Spoken and Written English

    Most vocational courses at BRIT require an english language level equivalent to at least a Certificate III in Spoken and Written English level.

    Certificate IV in Spoken and Written English - Further Studies will preare students for tertiary study in Australian settings.

    Certificate IV in Spoken and Written English - Employment will prepare students for work related training or prepare for students to enter into the workforce.

    Packaging Rules    

    Certificate II in Spoken and Written English

    Successful completion of 7 modules is required.

        * 1 core module
        * 6 electives

    Electives modules must include:

        * 2 modules form the listening and speaking skills electives
        * 2 modules form the reading and writing skills electives

    The 2 remaining modules can be selected from any of the elective modules, including numeracy.

    At the assessment interview the electives will be explained and you will be assisted in selecting the most appropriate electives for you needs.
