Certificate II in Telecommunications Cabling (Customer Premises)

  • Objectives This qualification forms part of the Telecommunications Training Package. It provides entry level training in installing and operating telecommunications cabling and equipment. These skills are used by telecommunications technicians, cable jointers and electrical line workers.
  • Entry requirements There are no prerequisites for this course, but industry experience would be an advantage.

    Duration Options

    Six months full time study, or as part of a traineeship.

    Part time study is also available if you are already working in the telecommunications industry, depending on industrial experience.

    Employment Opportunities     

    On successfully completing this course you will be eligible for employment as a cabler (under supervision) with companies in the telecommunications industry responsible for telephone service installation, maintenance and upgrade.

    To become a licenced cabler you will need to complete 6 months supervised cabling experience, to be eligible for an Australian Communications Authority (ACA) cabler registration (Licensing).     Licenced cablers have further employment opportunities in the IT industry (installing the computer network 'backbone' cabling), security, fire prevention, mining, building, hospitals and schools.

     
    Further Study Options     

    Further study includes the Certificate III Telecommunications Cabling.

    This qualification, plus 6 months on-the-job supervised experience can lead to a restricted or an open ACA cablers licence, depending on competencies selected.
