Certificate IV in Professional Writing and Editing
ObjectivesThis course is suitable for those looking at furthering their writing and editing skills, or to pursue a career in the professional writing and editing industry.
Entry requirementsSatisfactory completion of VCE or mature age entry. 'Mature age' means you must be at least 18 years of age on January 1st and have been out of full time study for at least 12 months, regardless of whether or not you have completed VCE. Other Entry Requirements You will need to attend an information session and an interview during which you will present a folio of your writing.

Core Study Areas - Industry Overview I, Computer Skills for Writers and Editors, Writing and Editing Skills, and Writing and Research.
Electives 2008 (3 drawn from) - Novel, Public Relations Writing, Writing Popular Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction, Writing for Young Adults, and Myths and Symbols for Writers.
Other Electives (Available in Alternate Years) - Poetry, Short Story, Writing for Children, Journalism, Literature for Writers, and Screenwriting.

This course is full time or part time. Classes are run both during the day and in the evening, and full time students are required to attend some evening classes.

On successfully completing this course you will be eligible for employment in a number of fields, including publishing, editing, journalism, freelance writing, corporate writing promotion, public relations, advertising, fiction, performance and poetry writing.
Further Study Options
Articulation arrangements are in place between BRIT's Professional Writing and Editing, Diploma qualification and La Trobe University Bendigo's Bachelor of Arts. Graduates from both the Certificate IV and Diploma courses have also been given credits at other Australian universities.
