Certificate IV in Racing (Advanced Harness Driver)
ObjectivesThis course provides the skills and knowledge required for you to actively participate in the Harness Racing Industry. You will learn and contribute to the daily care and training of horses as well as developing the skills required to drive standardbred horses in industry level competition. The course is designed to be hands-on and to reflect the realities of the harness racing industry.
Entry requirementsCore units of the Certificate II in Racing (Stablehand). Other Entry Requirements You must be 16 years or older.

Course descriptionKey Study Areas

* Equine handling, care and maintenance
* Occupational health and safety as it relates to the racing industry
* Driving skills to the level of industry competition

Duration Options
Full time - delivery at Junortoun for a minimum 38 hours per week for 32 weeks with an additional period of practical placement.
Flexible delivery options are available provided you have access to a suitable venue for practical experience.

Employment Opportunities
The harness racing industry has strong employment opportunities for skilled staff. Harness drivers have the flexibility to work freelance or to work in a stable to support training activities and horse care as well as driving.
Freelance driving alone is a difficult profession unless the driver has significant experience and skill.
