  • Objectives You will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes relevant to meet the intellectual language, physical, social and emotional needs of children in centre-based care. You will also learn about ethical work practices and the legal requirements of the child care industry.
  • Practical experience Some of the learning and assessment occurs in the workplace or a simulated workplace.

  • Course description This course/qualification has been designed to enable learners to meet the
    requirements of the Diploma of Children's Services CHC50302 in the
    Community Services Training Package for Centre Based Care and Family Day
    Care sectors.  

    The Training Package requirements for this qualification are that learners
    achieve:
    Pre requisites - 13 units of competency
    Compulsory units -13 units of competency
    Elective units - 7 units of competency
     
    Four TAFENSW modules have been added to the requirement of the Training
    package. These are the four Professional Experience modules,which have
    been included in the compulsory group to:
    ·ensure that the on the job requirements of the course/qualification-
    a minimum of 320 hours of workplace learning and 80 hours of simulation
    (playsession) is met.
    ·enable the assessor to validate that all workplace learning activities and
    the compulsory training package requirements have been undertaken
    ·enable the teacher to manage learner participation in workplace
    activities in learner workplace learning particularly in relation to
    clients in vulnerable circumstances line with TAFE NSW's policy -Promoting
    ethical practice during
     
    Within the structure of this course/qualification:
     
    Group 1 units of competency lead to the achievement of the pre-requisites.
     
    Group 2 contains the compulsory units of competency.
     
    Group 3 sub group 1 lead to the achievement of the elective units
    nominated by the NSW Industry reference group for Centre Based Care,
    -Learners who wish to seek employment in NSW in Centre Based Care should
    select this sub group.
     
    Group 3 sub group 2 lead to the achievement of the elective units
    nominated by the NSW Industry reference group for Family Day Care,
    -Learners who wish to seek employment in NSW in Family Day Care should
    select this sub group .
     
    Group 4
    contains the electives listed in the qualification and is provided
    recognition purposes.
     
    The Community Services Training Package permits the selection of elective
    units from this Training Package, not listed in the qualification, at this
    qualification level or higher. It also permits the selection of elective
    units at this qualification level only from other relevant National
    Training Package and enterprise specific units.
     
    The following modules have been included in Group 4 subgroup 1 as a device
    permit the recognition of any imported elective unit of competency as
    specified above:
    ·   3294V AQF Level 5 Imported Elective unit
    ·   3294W AQF Level 6 Imported Elective unit
     
    Group 5 are enrichment units and do not count towards course completion.
    The unit of competency THHGHS01B Follow workplace hygiene procedures is
    included in Group 5 for those learners requiring this unit for employment.
    completion of the unit of competency CHCCN3C Prepare nutritionally
    balanced food in a safe and hygienic manner gives advanced standing to
    THHGHS01B Follow workplace hygiene procedures.
     
    The module 3295Y Learner Orientation-Children's Services is included in
    Group 5 to provide an overview of the industry and an opportunity for
    learners to prepare a portfolio of evidence of of their existing knowledge
    determine their learning needs and/or for the purposes of recognition of
    prior learning .
     
    Learners who wish to exit with a CHC30402 Certificate III in Children's
    Services, upon completion of Group 1- Pre requisite units, have two
    choices:  

    1.Learners who are undertaking the NSW pathway will need to complete an
    additional elective unit-CHCRF1B Work effectively with families in caring
    for the child.
     
    2.All other learners who wish to exit with a Certificate III in Children's
    Services will need to complete 1 additional elective unit from this
    Diploma.  

    TUTORIAL SUPPORT
    ----------------
    Learners who may require additional support will be able to co-enrol in the
    Learner Support course 9999. This course provides support for language,
    literacy and numeracy needs. There is no additional enrolment fee for this
    course.
