Students will be trained in a range of interdisciplinary skills drawing on the background of staff at the Asia Institute and the Faculty generally in such fields as anthropology, classical study, cultural study, history, literature, linguistics, media and communication studies, and politics. Students will learn how to critically appraise the cultures, civilisations, histories and politics of the Asian region and will gain an understanding of how historical processes, ideologies and religions have shaped the current Asian scene and Australia's relationship with the region.
The Diploma in Arts (Asian Studies) aims at providing a broad foundation for either employment in Asia-related fields or for further research on Asia. This program would be an ideal complement to Asian language study but are also designed to provide essential knowledge on Asia for non-language students.
