ObjectivesThis Diploma Course equips you with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to plan and implement quality child care and educational programs for children from 0-12 years.
Entry requirementsSuccessful completion of Year 12 or mature age entry. All applicants selected into the course must have a Police Check and Working With Children Check processed prior to commencing in February. All applicants are required to complete 2 processes to apply for the Diploma of Children's Services course: * Application through VTAC * Download the supplementary application form for this course from the downloads section of Brit Tafe and mail to the HP&CS Centre * Mature age applicants are required to complete a reasoning and literacy test a literacy and numeracy selection test. The test which costs $45 is conducted by Vetassess. Registrations and payment done online * The ENTER score is used for exit VCE students * The Vetassess test results are used for mature aged applicants * Interviews will be offered during the 1st week of December Other Entry Requirements You are required to have completed a minimum of one full day of voluntary attendance at a child care centre before your interview. Applicants currently working in the field may use their present centre for this purpose.

Duration Options
2 years full time study (approximately 1,570 hours). Combination of on-the-job and off-the-job-training.
The Child Studies department delivers training to trainees at both Certificate 111 and the Diploma levels.
Trainees will be employed and receive training in a plan negotiated between the Child Studies department and the employer.

Employment Opportunities
On successfully completing this course you will be eligible for employment as a qualified AQF Level 5 Child Care professional in child care centres, family day care programs, private homes, preschool play centres, out of school hours programs and in settings for children with additional needs. Future career paths lead to management and coordination positions in Child and Family Service programs.
Further Study Options
On successfully completing this course you may apply to receive credits in a range of university courses, including Bachelors of Arts, Social Science, Human Services, Education and Early Childhood Training.
