English Language Enabling Course for Domestic Students
ObjectivesThis course will develop your English language proficiency in order for you to meet Curtin's literacy requirement. You will undertake four units in the areas of Academic Writing, English Communication, Tertiary Study Skills and English for Specific Purposes. The Academic Writing unit will develop your research skills which will enable you to write research essays with a clear thesis and arguments supported by appropriate research and references. English Communication will enhance your listening and note-taking skills and you will learn to make successful, researched oral presentations. Tertiary Study Skills will promote skills in academic reading. You will be introduced to critical thinking skills and be given the opportunity to apply these concepts by evaluating arguments presented in a range of reading texts. English for Specific Purposes will introduce you to research skills and provide you with a clearer understanding of literature review and project work, as well as the requirements for tertiary study.
Entry requirementsThis course is only available for domestic and migrant students with an English proficiency level of not less than IELTS band 5 in all four skill areas, or a TOEFL score of 520 or a CUTE D (in addition to the University's standard entry requirements).

Introduction
The course is designed for migrant and domestic students needing to develop their English language proficiency in order to meet Curtin's literacy requirement.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
This course is only available for domestic and migrant students with an English proficiency level of not less than IELTS band 5 in all four skill areas, or a TOEFL score of 520 or a CUTE D (in addition to the University's standard entry requirements).
Duration and Availability
This course is one semester full-time study. Part-time study is available to permanent residents.
Course Organisation
Students normally undertake all four units over one semester. In part-time mode, the four units of the course are conducted over two semesters.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
