Film & Television Foundations Course

  • Course description

VCA Film & TV Foundations is an intensive, year long, part-time filmmaking course. Combining lectures and practical workshops, Foundations’ part-time delivery schedule is designed to enable people already studying or working full-time access to many of Australia’s best film industry practitioners and educators within our state of the art facilities.

Reflecting the philosophy of our full-time programs, we deliver to the individual who is seeking to find their unique creative voice. Whilst the emphasis is on training writer/director/editors, you will also increase your knowledge and practical skills by experiencing the myriad of essential roles required on a film or TV production crew, including producing, sound recording, cinematography and production design. Integrating the technical, cultural and creative aspects of filmmaking, this course provides emerging filmmakers with invaluable access to industry professionals, empowering participants with the insight, confidence and connections required to move forward into this competitive industry. Geared for people looking to build a showreel and get the kind of practical experience and film culture education that are prerequisites for any full time Film and Television course or a direct break into the industry itself (insert feedback link).

Two short filming exercises (one Super 8 film, one Digital) plus one major short production will be individually written and directed by each student, adding three short films to your reel. Please refer to our downloadable brochure for a more detailed course breakdown.

All students who complete the year receive a VCA Film and Television Foundations certificate of completion plus a DVD of all of the works generated throughout the year.
