Graduate Certificate in TESOL

  • Objectives A Graduate Certificate in TESOL is a full-time (40 Credit point) program designed to provide initial training for teachers of English as a Second Language. It provides the basis for language teaching methodology and its practical applications.

    The course participants are required to complete at least 100 hours of theoretical component and the minimum of 6 hours of supervised classroom teaching.

    Successful completion of the course qualifies someone (1) who holds either a recognised, pre-service teaching qualification or (2) a recognized degree or diploma and 800 hours of teaching ESL experience, to teach in an Australian ELICOS institute or the school system. Internationally, the graduates of this course teach in many countries across the five continents. While we provide advice concerning the current TESOL job opportunities throughout the course, we do not find jobs for course participants.

    Attendance

    Students must undertake two subjects (equivalent to 40 credit points).

    Bond's Teaching methodology involves a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, examinations, projects, presentations, assignments, computer labs and industry projects.

    LING72-201 Language Teaching Methodology: TESOL

    SYNOPSIS
    This subject is designed to give students both the theoretical background in the nature of language learning and the practical skills necessary to be effective language teachers and classroom managers.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES
    gain understanding of the linguistic and psychological principles which underpin language teaching methodologies make educated decisions about which methodology to use for different teaching purposes apply classroom techniques stemming from a plethora o f teaching methodologies develop a greater awareness of their own (potential) teaching style and the concepts, develop a greater awareness of methodological issues currently being debated in the profession.
       


    LING72-701 Teaching Practicum: TESOL

    SYNOPSIS
    This subject is undertaken by students at the last stage of their studies. It is a necessary requirement for being awarded a TESOL qualification.

    PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
    Nil

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES
    Understand the basis for good teaching, Describe the teaching and learning stages in a simple way Plan language lessons and their parts of, Evaluate textbooks for teaching, Create own materials based on newspapers Work in teams on lesson preparation Desig n a lesson plan on their own Team teach a language lesson or its part Teach a language lesson or its part individually Solve basic discipline related and other problems in the class.

    Students who wish to continue towards a Postgraduate Diploma of Arts (Language Teaching/TESOL) or Master of Arts (Language Teaching/TESOL) or Master of Arts program will receive credit for two subjects (the equivalent of twenty credit points).
