Academic titleGraduate Diploma in Psychology
Course descriptionThis course will help candidates to develop the initial knowledge base, competencies and skills upon which more advanced studies in Psychology can be developed. It will assist in preparing graduates for an APS approved fourth year in Psychology (either an Honours degree in Psychological Science or a postgraduate diploma in Psychology).
The qualification is also intended for those who are seeking to refresh and update their Psychology studies to allow entry to fourth year Psychology programs. In the Victorian context, the course would also constitute an ideal pathway for teachers wishing to prepare themselves for the teaching of Psychology in secondary schools.
An important point to note is that the Graduate Diploma in Psychology prepares graduates for an APS accredited fourth year in Psychology; it does not consist of a fourth year. The subjects that comprise the Graduate Diploma are identical to the second and third year undergraduate Psychology sequence taught in the Bachelor of Psychological Science. Graduate Diploma students will participate and be assessed in exactly the same way as students enrolled in the Bachelor's course.
Professional Recognition
The Graduate Diploma in Psychology is an accredited program recognised by the Australian Psychological Society.
