ObjectivesThis course will enable you to develop advanced accounting skills so that you can assist in providing high level advice to management and governing bodies. You will examine advanced accounting and auditing issues and learn to apply concepts and theories to real-world situations. You’ll be encouraged to apply and test the ideas you learn in the workplace and evaluate them in light of your own experience. You will study topics in information systems, financial issues, managerial, business and society accounting, auditing, taxation and finance. You will also choose from a range of specialist units to support your current and future career needs. You can choose to undertake project work, or study advanced topics such as international finance, international accounting or public sector accounting.

Introduction

Participants are encouraged to apply and test these ideas in the workplace, and evaluate them in light of individual experience.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisties
A degree in business majoring in accounting.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Unit exemptions of up to 150 credits may be granted for optional units on the successful completion of professional accounting examinations approved by the School of Accounting.
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Course Organisation
In the six core units, students will explore topics in the areas of financial accounting, managerial accounting, governance and auditing. Optional units are available in the areas of information systems auditing and international aspects of accounting, taxation and finance.
Career Opportunities
Graduates generally find employment with organisations, both in the private and public sectors, and accounting firms.
