Master of Business and Information Technology (Professional)

  • Objectives The Master of Business and Information Technology (Professional) offers a combination of business knowledge and skills together with capabilities in the business applications of information technology for graduates seeking managerial or commercial roles in the information and communications technology sector. The MBIT will take 3-4 full time semesters, or up to two years part time to complete.
  • Entry requirements Applicants must have: * A completed Bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution in any discipline or equivalent.

  • Course description ENROLMENT

    International Students: To fulfil your student visa requirements, you’ll need to enrol in 30cp per semester. However, you may enrol in 40cp per semester (with your Program Advisor’s authorisation) which will reduce the time to complete your program.

    Domestic Students have the option of undertaking either 30 or 40cp per semester.

    PROFESSIONAL OUTCOMES

    The Master of Business and Information Technology (Professional) provides students with the business knowledge and IT management skills for a career in an IT Department of a larger organisation including government and business enterprise.

    WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING

    Work Integrated Learning is designed to promote and support student learning, personal development and professional practice. Students are responsible for sourcing industry projects themselves and are mentored by academic staff and their industry sponsor with agreed-upon learning objectives.

    Assessment includes planning documents, regular meetings with their academic mentor and industry sponsor, a final report presentation to peers, academic mentor and industry sponsor. The subject aims to: facilitate students’ self-analysis and reflective issues and problems; and apply theoretical knowledge in seeking solutions for practical workplace problems.

    Course Structure

    Students complete the following core subjects, plus the 20 week Work Integrated Learning subject:
    Group 1: Business Foundation

        * Business Processes/IT in Operations

    Group 3: People/Organisations

    Choose at least 2 subjects from this group:

        * Entrepreneurship
        * International Human Resource Management
        * Behaviour in Organisations

    Group 4: Management of Technology

    Choose at least 2 subjects:

        * Strategic IS Management
        * Developing ICT Strategies
        * Managing IT Projects
        * ICT Governance

    Electives

    Choose any 2 subjects from the postgraduate subjects offered by the School of Business and the School of Information Technology
