Master of Clinical Physiotherapy

  • Objectives In this course you will choose to major in either clinical physiotherapy or continence and women’s health. In the clinical physiotherapy major you will study the philosophy of evidence-based practice and develop practical skills in identifying, acquiring, evaluating and using evidence. You will further your clinical decision-making skills through the use of statistical analysis, including the examination of various forms of statistical testing. You will choose from a range of specialised higher-level units and be given the opportunity to study clinical management, examining the theories and techniques of physiotherapy practice. You will also study models of service delivery, current developments in physiotherapy care, promotion of health and prevention of disease and dysfunction in the client group. In the continence and women’s health major you will undertake a series of coursework units in this specialist area. You will study at least one unit in clinical management and can choose between further studies in management or evidence-based practice. Both majors include an individual research project in the final semester. You will prepare for this project by exploring research methods, learning to generate ideas for research projects and studying the research process. Your research project will conclude with the preparation of a journal paper, oral or poster presentation of your findings. Clinical practice is a significant component of both majors. During your placement you will detail a variety of case histories and evaluate each as a reflective practitioner. Please note: Participation is obligatory in laboratory classes which require appropriate disrobing when acting as clients in the peer group, and physically manipulating patients including lifting and supporting people with disabilities.
  • Entry requirements A bachelor degree in physiotherapy or equivalent, plus at least two years’ relevant clinical experience. Applicants must be registered physiotherapists in Western Australia. Additional requirements: Prior to graduation, you will need to provide evidence of your successful completion of an approved course in first aid (CPR).
