Master of Creative Arts

  • Objectives The Master of Creative Arts is designed for applicants wishing to specialise in one of the following disciplines: * Producing * Directing * Cinematography * Sound Design * Editing * Production Design The program focuses on the research, preparation, and production of a feature length or equivalent major creative work in a relevant digital format, and a written exegesis of approximately 10,000 to 15,000 words. The first semester may also involve participation in classroom or on-line seminars on thesis preparation and presentation.
  • Entry requirements Selection will be based on the following criteria: * An approved Bachelor degree and/or professional or creative experience in a creative arts field; * Submitted proposal for a creative project (approx 750 words), including the title of your project, a statement outlining the proposed creative work and a discussion of the issues it will address; * Statement of your reasons for wanting to undertake this degree, which incorporates details on your background and experience in creative arts and what you are hoping to achieve from this course; * Portfolio of previously published, screened, exhibited or broadcast creative work, including a bibliography and samples of reviews, if available; * Demonstrated generic technical skills in the medium appropriate to the proposed project; * Potential to carry out research and the availability of appropriately qualified staff to supervise the research.     Graduates will have a completed film to take to market and/or festivals, enabling them to further develop their career with a clear understanding of the creative process.

    Work Experience & Internships

    Internship students gain extensive work experience through being assigned to a production company. Enrolment is at the discretion of the Centre’s Advisory Committee, but will ultimately be decided by the employer.

    Attendance

    International Students: Students must undertake three subjects per semester (equivalent to 30 credit points) to fulfil student visa requirements. Student may be able to accelerate their degree program by obtaining written approval from the Faculty.

    Domestic Students: Most Students undertake four subjects per semester (equivalent to 40 credit points). You may, however, enrol in fewer subjects (equivalent to 30 credit points) and extend your degree over a longer period.

    Bond's Teaching methodology involves a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, examinations, projects, presentations, assignments, computer labs and industry projects.

    Feature Development 1: Screenplay
    SYNOPSIS
    In this subject, students explore assigned screenplays produced for the Master of Creative Arts with a focus on all elements required to produce a feature length film. Students then analyse their designated role and create a plan to develop the screenpla y into a producible feature length film.

    Feature Development 2: Image & Sound
    SYNOPSIS
    In this subject, the selected screenplays from the Master of Creative Arts (Screenwriting) discipline are analysed with an emphasis on sound and image related to context and how the envisioned style of the film will be achieved through practical means.

    Feature Production Techniques 1
    SYNOPSIS
    In this subject, students will focus on their major in the Master of Creative Arts, analysing and creating a strategic plan for their assigned screenplay under the mentorship of a professional from their discipline.

    Feature Production Techniques 2
    SYNOPSIS
    In the subject, students will use the analysis of their assigned screenplay and create production components to produce the feature length film under the mentorship of a professional from their discipline.

    Film & Television Internship
    SYNOPSIS
    Students in internship subjects undertake intensive work experience. They are assigned to a production company and work there as directed. Enrolment in the internship is competitive and usually decided by the employer. Enrolment in Internship subjects is at the discretion of the Centre's Advisory Committee
    PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

    This subject can only be taken by students who have been approved by the Dean or designate.
    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    To enable students to work as part of a production team on a professional film/television production.

    SYNOPSIS
    Subject to the approval of the coordinator, students may undertake appropriate individual projects for credit. Such project work will lead to submission of specific materials on agreed dates. The project will involve work at least equivalent to a normal s ubject.
