Master of Engineering/Master of Business Administration (International) (International Students)

  • Objectives The Master of Engineering/Master of Business Administration (International) provides solid theoretical groundings in both management and engineering practice that will deliver engineering graduates who are articulate, highly skilled and able to meet the future challenges of business. The course covers a broad range of topics relating to all aspects of international organisational management and the development of the creative, analytical and interpersonal capabilities crucial to business leadership.
  • Entry requirements For admission to the Master of Engineering/Master of Business Administration (International) students must have normally completed a four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent (a grade point of average of 65% or more in the undergraduate degree will normally be required). Applicants who have completed a Graduate Certificate or equivalent in Engineering would also be eligible. All applicants must have evidence of completion of an undergraduate degree in English or an English language test that meets the current University requirements

  • Course description Fees and charges
    Fee paying place - International (IFP)
    A Fee paying place is one for which the university does not receive any government funding. As such, students enrolled in these places are required to contribute the full cost of their course.

    Fees for international students apply to persons living in Australia with Temporary Resident status, provided that there is no limitation on study and persons living abroad who are not Australian citizens and do not have Permanent Resident status in Australia.

    Equivalent Full Time Student Load (EFTSL)
    EFTSL is the standard annual full time load. Eight credit points is the standard full time load for one year of study.

    The actual fees charged by Deakin University will depend upon the discipline from which each individual unit is chosen, and may vary from the indicative course fee cited, particularly if units are chosen from a number of disciplines.     Please note that the fees per unit/credit point may increase annually due to rises in the cost of course delivery and service.

    Career opportunities
    The course will allow students to specialise and apply advanced technical knowledge and skills in an industrial context; enable students to partner with industry and form professional networks, and; build upon Deakin's research expertise in a number of specialised fields of engineering.


    Course rules
    The combined degree requires students to complete 16 credit points of study over two years of full-time study, or part-time equivalent.

    Students complete 8 credit points as prescribed below.

    SEB711 Developing and Managing Innovation  

    SEN705 Engineering Professional Practice  

    SIT764 Project Management  

     

    Plus a specialism (comprising 6 credit points) in one of the following:
    Mechanical (Product Design and Development)
    Mechanical Engineering (Automotive Engineering)
    Electronics Engineering (Automation and Control Systems)
    Electronics Engineering (Automotive Intelligent Systems)
    Civil Engineering (Water Engineering)
    Civil Engineering (Construction Management)

    Business Administration (International Component)

    Students complete 8 credit points of Business Administration study comprising six core units and two units selected from a group of three:

    MPA751/MPR751 Financial Reporting and Analysis (Residential)  *

    MPE707 International Banking and Finance  

    MPE781 Economics for Managers  

    MPK732/MPR732 Marketing Management (Residential)  *

    MPM703 Business Strategy and Analysis  

    MPM735 International Business Management  

    Plus 2 credit points of units from:

    MPE711 Global Trade and Markets  

    MPK701 Research Design and Analysis  

    MPM722/MPR722 Human Resource Management (Residential)  *

    * MPR code denotes residential version of unit.



    Specific Course Information
    The course will make use of Deakin's flexible learning model, using electronic conferencing, group-based project work and interaction, high-quality course materials, opportunities for overseas study programs and intensive residential schools. Graduates will be encouraged to develop a raft of generic skills, enabling them to be effective and efficient employees and citizens.


    Admission requirements - general
    Deakin University offers admission to postgraduate courses through a number of Admission categories.
    In all categories of admission, selection is based primarily on academic merit as indicated by an applicants previous academic record. The minimum requirements are successful completion of a three-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, from an approved university or other educational institution or successful completion of other equivalent qualifications gained by examination, or approved professional or industrial experience. International students must also meet the English language requirements.

    Advanced standing - general
    If you have completed previous studies which you believe may reduce the number of units you have to complete at Deakin, indicate in the appropriate section on your application that you wish to be considered for advanced standing. You will need to provide your previous course details so your credit can be determined. If you are eligible, your offer letter will then contain information about your advanced standing.
    Your advanced standing is formally approved prior to your enrolment at Deakin during the Enrolment and Orientation Program. You must bring original documents relating to your previous study so that this approval can occur.
