Master of Information Technology (Honours)

  • Objectives The aim of the program is to prepare graduates for a research career in the IT industry or the pursuit of higher research degree qualifications including a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The program is 12 subjects (120 credit points) in total and will take 3-4 full time semesters, or up to two years part time to complete. Admission to this program is restricted to outstanding graduates of a Bachelor or Masters of Information Technology program or equivalent. Students enrolled in the MIT program who have demonstrated the required academic ability may be invited to transfer to this program
  • Entry requirements Applicants must have: * Admission is restricted to outstanding graduates of a Bachelor’s or Masters of Information Technology program or equivalent. This degree enables students to obtain research skills before embarking on a PhD.

  • Course description Enrolment

    International Students: To fulfil your student visa requirements, you’ll need to enrol in 30cp per semester. However, you may enrol in 40cp per semester (with your Program Advisor’s authorisation) which will reduce the time to complete your program.

    Domestic Students have the option of undertaking either 30 or 40cp per semester.


    PROFESSIONAL Outcomes

    The Master of Information Technology (Honours) will provide students with the analytical skills for research careers in the information technology industry or entry into PhD studies.

    Course Structure

    Foundation Subjects (4)
    All students must complete the following Foundation Subjects

        * INFT71-110 Introduction to Programming
        * INFT71-120 Information Systems Development
        * INFT73-380 ICT Governance
        * INFT73-710 IT Project

    Elective Subjects (8)
    An additional 8 elective subjects must be chosen from one or more of the following themes (2 of the 8 subjects selected must be taken at an advanced level – INFT73-XXX):

    Distributed Systems and Web Applications where topics from advanced website, systems architecture, middleware, mobility and enterprise architecture will be covered.

    Information Systems where topics from electronic commerce, information systems management, databases, business intelligence, data warehousing systems and enterprise systems design will be covered.

    Management where topics from organisational change, technology management, security and assurance, business systems and business processes will be offered

    Software Development where topics from software engineering, programming techniques and modelling / validation will be covered.

    A program where all the elective subjects are from the above themes has Australian Computer Society accreditation.
