    About the course

    Charles Sturt University is a major provider of medical imaging practitioners in Australia, preparing radiographers and nuclear medicine technologists through the School of Biomedical Sciences.

    Students also have the opportunity to develop their academic skills to enable them to undertake a lifetime of professional development in the field and become familiar with the research methods available in the area of medical imaging.

    The Master degree comprises the Postgraduate Diploma subjects and an additional year of part-time study involving a dissertation relating to medical ultrasound.

    Your course is recognised by industry

    Students are eligible to become an Accredited Medical Sonographer (AMS) through the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR) at the completion of the eight Graduate Diploma subjects. The Master degree has also been accredited by the ASAR.

    Credit

    Credit will be given to students who have relevant postgraduate equivalent qualifications, however this will be assessed on an individual basis.

    Residential school

    There is a compulsory five-day residential school, which is held in Wagga Wagga, usually during April of each year.

    In addition, there is an optional two-day introductory residential school held in Wagga Wagga in February.

    Attendance at the residential school occurs during enrolment in PHY541 Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation.

    Graduation requirements

    To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 96 points for the Master degree and 64 points for the Postgraduate Diploma.

    In addition to the above requirement, students must also submit a clinical logbook which meets minimum course requirements to graduate with either the Postgraduate Diploma or Master degee.
