Objectives
The course provides the opportunity to develop and enhance midwifery knowledge, skills, expertise and leadership potential. This course provides the opportunity to conceptualise new and creative approaches to midwifery care, congruent with societal and professional trends. The course provides for multiple entry points, and allows for completion at Master's level, or exit at Graduate Diploma level. Opportunity is provided for registered nurses to gain a midwifery qualification, and for midwives holding a midwifery certificate to gain a postgraduate qualification.

Entry requirements
Entry Point 1 (120cp - Three semesters) - (Brisbane and Melbourne only) 1. Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent; and 2. eligibility for nurse registration in the state where the course is to be undertaken. Entry Point 2 (80cp - Two semesters) - (Ballarat, Brisbane and Melbourne) 1. Practising midwives with a Bachelor degree or equivalent; and 2. eligibility for midwifery registration in the state where the course is to be undertaken. Entry Point 3 (40cp - One semester) - (Ballarat, Brisbane and Melbourne) 1. Graduate Diploma in Midwifery or equivalent; and 2. eligibility for midwifery registration in the State where the course is to be undertaken. * An applicant who holds a Diploma or Certificate in Nursing may apply for special admission * An applicant who lacks the formal prerequisite but who is licensed to practise midwifery within the state where the course is to be undertaken may apply for special admission * An applicant who lacks the formal prerequisite but who has equivalent midwifery qualifications and experience may apply for special admission

EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete the following requirements, undertaking units from the Schedule of Unit Offerings:
1. Entry Point 124
120 cp, consisting of:
1. 110 cp from Core Units A and C; and
2. 10 cp from Master’s level Electives approved by the Course Co-ordinator.
2. Entry Point 224
80 cp, consisting of:
1. 70 cp from Core Units B and C; and
2. 10 cp from Master’s level Electives approved by the Course Co-ordinator.
3. Entry Point 324
40 cp, consisting of:
1. 30 cp from Core Units C; and
2. 10 cp from Master’s level Electives approved by the Course Co-ordinator.
2. Exit Point
A student who has completed the requirements prescribed for the Graduate Diploma in Midwifery may exit with that award.
