Postgraduate Diploma in Arts (Asian Studies)

  • Objectives The Postgraduate Diploma in Arts:-

    * is an advanced level of study designed to allow students to specialise their knowledge across one area of study;
    * provides students with the scope to refine their analytical skills and research techniques;
    * provides the opportunity to specialise with strong foundation for the future progression to higher degree research in Arts at the Masters or PhD level;
    improves the scope of employment options and professional advancement.

  • Course description Option 1: For students who have completed level 3 in the language at the University of Melbourne or equivalent level at another institution:

        * Thesis 12,000 words
        * two advanced language subjects
        * three elective subjects

    Option 2:

        * Thesis 12,000 words
        * five elective subjects

    Total 100 points - subjects are 12.5 points each, unless indicated otherwise.

    Students will be required to write a thesis of 12 000 words on a topic approved by the supervisor. They will also be required to present a seminar paper on the results of their research.     Semester 1, Semester 2     37.50

    Advanced Language Subjects
    Students enrolling in these subjects must have a minimum of level 3 language skills or equivalent.

    Students may substitute an Asian language that is offered by another tertiary institution at a suitable level but is unavailable at The University of Melbourne with the permission of the course coordinator.
