STEPS Accelerated

  • Objectives Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) is a pre-university preparatory program that can help prepare potential applicants for tertiary study. STEPS aims to afford adults who have turned 18, and who are Australian or New Zealand citizens or hold permanent resident or humanitarian visas, an opportunity to study at university. STEPS is a 13 week day-time program, designed to instill in its adult learners the skills and confidence necessary to embark on tertiary study. STEPS covers academic communication, mathematics, computing, independent learning skills, study skills and library/information literacy skills. The great majority of students who have completed STEPS have gained entrance to CQUniversity or other tertiary institutions, while others have moved on to more rewarding careers.

    About STEPS

    CQUniversity has gained an excellent reputation for its accessibility and support for those who have difficulties gaining entry to university.

    STEPS is a preparatory program which was developed to provide a much needed pathway to higher education for mature age students.

    Innovation and practicality is the essence of the program, which has been designed to give you the qualifications and confidence desired to begin tertiary study.

    The STEPS program is characterised by small classes, group work, cooperative learning and peer support, transformative learning and the challenging of worldviews.


    Career Opportunities

    The STEPS program helps mature age students develop the skills and confidence needed to start a university degree. Most students who complete STEPS gain entry to CQUniversity or another tertiary institution.


    Program Structure

    This program is offered on-campus during Term 1 and Term 2.

     

    Course and Study Allowance

        * Language and Learning - 6 hours/week
        * Transition Mathematics 1 - 6 hours/week
        * Computing for Academic Assignment Writing - 3 hours/week
        * Tertiary Preparation Skills - 3 hours/week
