VIETNAMESE 1

  • Objectives Vietnamese 1 gives a solid introduction to the language and culture of Vietnam. This course will prepare you to use simple Vietnamese with assurance in everyday situations, as well as provide you with the essentials of grammar and vocabulary to build your knowledge of Vietnamese. Vietnamese 1 is a comprehensive, standalone beginners course in Vietnamese.

    Content

    This 24-hour course focuses on speaking and listening, so you can communicate effectively on everyday topics, such as:

    • meeting people
    • shopping
    • food and drink
    • interests
    • likes and dislikes

    You’ll learn the fundamentals of grammar, so you can put your own sentences together, and you’ll take the first steps in reading and writing Vietnamese.
    Outcomes

    By the end of this course you should be able to:

    • introduce yourself and others and use basic expressions for meeting, greeting and saying goodbye
    • engage in simple conversations and exchange personal information about your family, work, and nationality
    • use numbers correctly, in the context of phone calls and money
    • order drinks and foods in a restaurant
    • invite people out
    • show an understanding and appreciation of the values and customs of Vietnamese-speaking communities

    The topics and learning outcomes may vary slightly from group to group according to learner needs.


    Speaking a language is a skill that needs practice. For this reason, CAE language teachers provide many opportunities in class for you to practise speaking, so you can build fluency and confidence.

    About Marguerite Nguyen

    Marguerite Nguyen holds a Master of Education, a Bachelor of Arts (Theology) and a Diploma of Social Science (Family Studies). Marguerite is fluent in five languages and worked for the United Nations for ten years in refugee camps in Hong Kong. She has in excess of ten years' experience in teaching at LaTrobe University, with the International School and CAE. She has published the text, Study Vietnamese Together (Level I, II, III and CDRom) with Anthony Quang.
