Objectives
Electrical power engineering is a well established engineering discipline encompassing electrical power generation, transmission and distribution, power electronics, electromechanical systems, and renewable energy. The course focuses on the development of knowledge and skills relevant to professional engineering practice and, along with a sound theoretical base, includes strong elements of practical problem solving, team work and project development. As a result, as well as having multiple technical and transferable skill competencies, graduates will have strong analytical skills and the ability to lead complex projects. Graduates of the course will be conversant in electrical and electronic engineering, have specialist skills in design, development and management of advanced and sustainable electrical power generation and transmission systems, and have the ability to participate in and lead complex multidisciplinary projects. Electrical power engineers have diverse employment opportunities in most sectors of industry, including public utilities, renewable energy, mining and resource, manufacturing, defence, aerospace, chemical and pharmaceutical, and consulting.
