-
Objectives
A contemporary chemical laboratory entails the measurement of vast amounts of experimental data using modern and sophisticated instrumentation. In this context, there is a branch of statistics allied to chemistry known as chemometrics, which deals with issues such as experimental design, experimental optimisation, data mining, sample surveying and operational research. This double major, available as part of the Bachelor of Science - School of Science and Computing, will prepare you for a range of employment opportunities which require a detailed knowledge and understanding of statistics as it applies to the chemical sciences. Upon completion of this course you will graduate with a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry and Applied Statistics).

Introduction
A contemporary chemical laboratory entails the measurement of vast amounts of experimental data using modern and sophisticated instrumentation. In this context, there is a branch of statistics allied to chemistry known as Chemometrics, which deals with issues such as experimental design, experimental optimisation, data mining, sample surveying and operational research. The double major in Chemistry and Applied Statistics will prepare students for a range of employment opportunities requiring a detailedknowledge and understanding of statistics as it applies to the chemical sciences. Graduates may be employed as Analytical Chemists in the Government and Private sectors.
