Course description
Professional recognition
Students undertaking study for the purpose of professional recognition should note that such recognition is the prerogative of the professional body. It is the responsibility of the student to check that the units offered by the University are recognised by the relevant professional organisation.
Fees and charges
The University is required to charge fees for single subject non-award unit enrolments. Single subject non-award unit fees are trimester based and cover full tuition costs. The cost of each unit depends on the government classified area of study the unit belongs to.
Single subject non-award unit students are not eligible for financial assistance from Centrelink, university loans or other grants. If fees are to be paid by an employer or the Department of Education, Science and Training, a letter from the employer stating this arrangement must accompany the application form.
A single subject non-award unit is not Commonwealth supported and therefore students are not eligible for HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP.
Closing dates
Applicants are encouraged to return their completed forms as early as possible as places may be limited. 2009 closing dates are as follows:
* Trimester 1 - 1 January (off campus); 4 February (on campus)
* Trimester 2 - 16 June (off campus); 30 June (on campus)
* Trimester 3 - 19 October (off campus and on campus)
How to apply
For single subject non-award study please apply online via the Applicant Portal.
You can apply for multiple units in one trimester on the same application. However, if you apply for a unit in one trimester, then wish to pursue study in another trimester, you are required to submit another online application.
To choose a unit to suit you, read the student handbooks (new window) for comprehensive unit descriptions, trimester and mode availability (on or off campus), prerequisites, credit point value and assessment details.
Approval for enrolment is dependent on the availability of places after Commonwealth supported students have been enrolled in the unit/s. Once enrolled, you have the privileges and responsibilities of a student at Deakin, and an invoice for any fees payable will be forwarded to you.
