  • Objectives
    This course provides the skills and knowledge required to enter the racing industry, working as a stablehand in a professional stable. Although previous experience would be an advantage, it is not necessary provided you are prepared to work hard. A stablehand works in a horse racing stable to care for the animals and to meet their individual needs in feeding, grooming, exercising, transporting and keeping the environment safe, clean and hygienic.

    There are no specific educational prerequisites for this course. Other Entry Requirements You must be physically fit and at least 16 years of age.

        * Working effectively in the racing industry
        * Basic driving
        * Occupational health and safety

    Duration Options

    This course is usually completed full time over 18 weeks, including practical experience, and is delivered at Junortoun.

    Part time options are also available as are workplace based traineeships.

    Employment Opportunities     

    There is a constant need for skilled stablehands in both the standardbred and thoroughbred sectors of the racing industry. On successfully completing this course you will be eligible for employment in professional stables, working under supervision but with a defined level of responsibility and judgement within known routines.

    Further Study Options    
    Successfully completing the Certificate II can lead into further study at either Certificate III or Certificate IV levels.

    You will not be assessed as part of this course.
